Replacing the old module - It's easy!
The problem
Many Renault owners have experienced a problem with one or more of their car's electric windows. Vehicles affected include the Renault Megane, Scenic and Clio.
Often after a period of erratic or intermittent action, the window simply stops working, quite often in the open position.
Problems may be experienced on any, or all, of the nearside or offside, front or rear door electric windows.
The cause
The cause can be either a mechanical or electrical fault.
If, when pressing the up/down window switch, the motor can be heard to be
running, or attempting to turn, the fault is almost certainly mechanical.
Otherwise, no sound from the motor, or just a click from a relay, indicates an electrical fault, which mainly affects the Renault Megane II, Scenic II
and Clio III.
Mechanical failure can often be rectified by replacing a snapped steel cable,
or plastic clip, or else the complete regulator assembly.
There are numerous after market suppliers able to supply these at reasonable cost.
Electrical failure is usually caused by damage to the electronics, as a result of moisture entering the Temic control module fitted on the
electric window
lift motor.
Or if the window operates of its own accord, this also indicates an
electrical problem.
The original 6-pin Temic module is not available separately, or even with the motor, but only as part of the complete original Renault window
regulator, including the motor, at a cost of several hundred pounds.
The solution
Simple and inexpensive
A simple and inexpensive cure, if the cause is electrical, is the "mini-cube"™ module from QDI Ltd, which is a simple plug-in replacement for the original 6-pin Temic module.
The QDI "mini-cube"™ module does away with the connection to the car's computer, and the troublesome electronics of the original, but still retains full control of the window from the door switch.
The small downside is that there is no "one-touch" operation, or remote operation (on those models equipped with it).
Owners of the Megane coupe-cabriolet cc will also lose the automatic window roll-down feature when operating the roof.
However, most owners will probably agree that eliminating the problem more than compensates for these minor inconveniences.
The "mini-cube" measures just one cubic inch, and is fully encapsulated, so it cannot be affected by moisture like the original.
It also features self-resetting over-current protection to guard against any possibility of
the motor overheating in the event of a fault.
It will successfully replace the 6-pin
Temic module fitted to the front or rear, nearside or offside, window
regulator motor of the Renault Megane 2, Scenic 2 or Clio 3 built up
to 2009.
Clios built after 2009, and other models, use a different, L-shaped, 6-pin module that is much more reliable but the mini-cube™ can still be used to replace these, if required.
